Tour Waqrapucara

4:00 am - Pick-up from your hotel. Departure to the south of the city of Cusco, specifically to the province of Acomayo.

An hour and a half after leaving Cusco, we will arrive in Cusipata for breakfast. After half an hour, we will continue our journey.

After another hour and a half by vehicle, we will reach the start of the hike, located at an altitude of 4,500 masl. Our guide will provide recommendations before departure.

The hike lasts 2 hours and 30 minutes until reaching the archaeological complex of Waqrapucara (4,300 masl), a site from where we can admire the Apurímac canyon.

Waqrapucara comes from two Quechua words: Waqra = horn, Pucara = fortress. Therefore, it means the "fortress of the horns". It was inhabited by the Canchis people and later the Incas arrived and improved its architecture.

We will have one hour to explore the different enclosures of this fortress, take photographs, and appreciate the rugged geographical mountains formed by the creation of the Apurímac river.

Afterward, we begin our return hike. After an hour of walking, we will be able to enjoy our lunch in the middle of the mountains.

We continue hiking for a couple more hours. We board our vehicle and head straight back to Cusco, a 3-hour drive where we can rest after the strenuous hike.
